Cape Verde tourism leaps by 27.4% in 2011 to 428,000 tourists

Great news for Cape Verde as it announced that tourism in in the islands last year grew by 27.4 percent according to the annual report of the Bank of Cape Verde (BCV).

Gross tourism revenues rose 26.4 percent in 2011 (following a growth of 5.3 percent in 2010), accounting for 21.1 percent of the countries GDP.

Overnight stays increased by 21.9 percent and the average tourist stay in Cape Verde was around 5.7 nights.

In 2011 Cape Verde welcomed 428,000 tourists, who provided income of 27.847 billion Cape Verdean escudos (US$309 million).
