9.8% Increase in Tourism in Cape Verde.



Cape Verde’s hotel establishments registered 348,600 guests and 2.2 million overnight stays in the first half, representing increases of 7.9% and 9.8%, respectively year-on-year, the National Statistics Institute (INE) said on Wednesday.

The number of guests registered in the second quarter was 153,500 and the number of overnight stays reached 988,100, with increases of 15.9% and 13.7%, respectively, and the average stay contracted by 0.2%, from 6.3 to 6.1 nights.

Hotels continued to be the most popular establishments, with 87.5% of the total, followed by bed and breakfasts with 3.9%, inns with 3.2% and tourist villages with 2.7%.

The island of Sal remained the one that attracted the highest number of tourists, with 45.7% of total entries, followed by Boavista Island with 32.2% and Santiago with 10.4%.

The main tourist market in the second quarter continued to be the United Kingdom, with 27.1% of the total, followed by Portugal, Germany, the Netherlands, with 11.4%, 9.9% and 8.3%. respectively.

UK visitors were also the ones who stayed longest in Cape Verde, with an average of 8.3 nights.
